A. Definition
Of Hotel
A hotel is an establishment that provides lodging
paid on a short-term basis. The provision of basic accommodation, in times
past, consisting only of a room with a bed, a cupboard, a small table and a
washstand has largely been replaced by rooms with modern facilities, including
en-suite bathrooms and air conditioning or climate control. Additional common
features found in hotel rooms are a telephone, an alarm clock, a television, a
safe, a mini-bar with snack foods and drinks, and facilities for making tea and
coffee. Luxury features include bathrobes and slippers, a pillow menu,
twin-sink vanities, and jacuzzi bathtubs. Larger hotels may provide additional
guest facilities such as a swimming pool, fitness center, business center,
childcare, conference facilities and social function services.
B. Terminology
Of Hotel
1. Room and bed
Ø Standard
Room . This is the kind of room with most small size with limited facilities .
Usually contains only a bed , a bathroom with shower , a pair of chairs and a
small table , a TV , and a small dressing table .
Ø Run
of House ( ROH ) . This type of room can mean the last room available . This
type of room has a view at least interesting , much of the hotel facilities .
ROH rooms are usually offered at the cheapest price .
Ø Superior
Room . This room is in the Standard Room . The bathroom is more spacious and
usually equipped with bath - up . Besides the existing facilities in a standard
room , some hotels still adding sofas , dressers , hair dryer , coffee maker .
Ø Deluxe
Room . Compared Superior Room , this room is only slightly wider and facilities
tend to be the same as the Superior Room .
Ø Suite
. What distinguishes this room is another room besides the bedroom and bathroom
. Another room is like a living room with a few chairs or sofas . Well because
there is the additional space is more spacious than Superior / Deluxe Room.
Some hotels still divides again into Junior Suite Room Suite , Business Suite
or Executive Suite .
Ø Presidential
. This is the largest room in comparison with other types of rooms . This
basically categorized Suite Room with extensive and most complete facilities .
This type of room is almost like home . Not all hotels have this kind of room ,
the hotel is only 5 - star luxury hotels that provide it , and even then only a
few units . Some hotels put Suitenya close to the Presidential helicopter
landing facilities ( helipads ) and has the best pemenadangan owned hotel .
Ø Single Bed : Beds with a size of approximately 90cm x
195cm .
Ø Super Single Bed : Beds with a size of about 135xm x
195cm .
Ø Queen Bed : Beds with a size of about 160cm x 195cm .
Ø King Bed : Beds with a size of about 180cm x 195cm .
Ø Double Bed : Queen-size bed or king .
Ø Large Bed : king or queen bed .
Ø Extra Bed : Extra beds . Rollaway bed is usually sized
single .
Ø Dorm Bed : One single bed , in a dorm room ( dormitory
) . Guests will stay in a shared room with other travelers - travelers . The
dorm rooms contain between 4 and 30 guests .
Ø Bunk Bed : bunk bed room . Usually dorm / hostel using
this type of bed .
Ø Single Room : Room is for the guests only , can with
one single bed , or one double bed ( super single , queen , or king ) .
Ø Double Room : Room with one double bed ( queen or king
) .
Ø Twin Room : Room with two single beds or two super
single beds .
Ø Double Double Room : Room with two double beds ( super
single , queen , or king ) .
Ø Triple Room : Room is for three guests , with a queen
or king bed , plus one single bed . Or it could be three single beds .
Ø Quartet Room : Room is for four guests , with two
queen beds or a king .
Ø Family Room : Room reserved for families . Could constitute
or Quartet Triple Room.
2. Food
/ Breakfast Package
Ø Room
Only: Breakfast is not included in the room package. If available, guests can
enjoy breakfast provided at an additional cost.
Ø Oriental
Breakfast: Coffee / tea, noodles, rice, porridge, vegetables, eggs, fruit.
Ø Continental
Breakfast. Coffee / tea and bread or cake. Sometimes with yogurt, cereal, or
juice.
Ø American
Breakfast: Coffee / tea, croissants, pastries, eggs, bacon, sausage, hashbrown,
toast, pancakes, waffles. Sometimes with yogurt, cereal, or juice.
Ø English
Breakfast: Same as American Breakfast.
Ø Full
Breakfast: A combination of two or more types of breakfast on top.
Ø Breakfast
Buffet: Breakfast with a selection of foods that should be taken alone. Usually
all-you-can-eat or all you can eat.
Ø Full
Board: hotel rooms, breakfast, lunch, dinner. Sometimes accompanied by a coffee
break (one or two times).
Ø Half
Board: Room hotel, breakfast, dinner.
Ø All-Inclusive:
Full-board plus activities.
3. Other
terminology of hotel :
Ø Rate
. There are several terms rate hotel , there rack-rate/publish rate , no promo
rate. Rack Rate / published hotel rate is the official rate , but in practice
the rates imposed under the published rate. Should be asked also whether nett
or + + . Nett fare means you only pay a fee. + While + means that rates must be
added that the amount of tax and service for Indonesia is 21 % , and can vary
in foreign countries.
Ø Block
- out Date . If you book a room online this term is often used to signify certain
dates where the rooms can not be booked online or through a travel agency .
Ø High
/ Peak Season Surcharge . Room rates are usually determined 6 months or 1 year
earlier . For guests crowded conditions usually hotels charge extra for certain
values .
High season surcharge is usually added during the school holidays . While Peak
season surcharge apply during holidays Eid , or the new year .
Ø Breakfast
. When booking a room should be asked whether the price includes the breakfast
and for how many people . Code R / O or Room Only is a marker that room rates
do not include breakfast .
Ø Check
- in Time & Late Check - out Time . Check - in Time is the hour where
guests are allowed to checkin . Check -in time is also varied and very
situational , meaning that at the moment a lot of empty rooms still possible
you check -in at 9 am . Check -in time is between the average hours starting at
1 or 2 pm . Check - out time is at where you 've had to leave the hotel on the
last day of stay . Usually ranged at 11 A / s 12 . As with check -in time ,
